Students attend Mooting Competition

On Monday 14th May, Year 12 Legal Studies students Joshua Mahoney, Natasha Petroccitto and Jessica Munson travelled to Toowoomba to take part in the first round of the USQ Legal Studies Mooting Competition. A moot is a mock judicial proceeding set up to examine a hypothetical case as an academic exercise.

The students were required to argue an appeal in a hypothetical murder case. In order to prepare their legal arguments for the appeal they were required to research a number of  real cases, such as the Gerard Baden-Clay trial. Joshua Mahoney acted as Senior Barrister, Natasha Petroccitto as Junior Barrister and Jessica Munson as Solicitor.

In this first round, the students argued well in the USQ Moot Court against Toowoomba school Centenary Heights State High School.  The next round is in two weeks’ time against Fairholme College.
