Second Mooting Competition
On Tuesday 29th May, the three Year 12’s in the St Joseph’s Mooting Team competed in the second round of the USQ Legal Studies Mooting Competition in Toowoomba. In this round of the competition, students competed against Fairholme College, advocating for appellant. The team was required to analyse a range of legal documents including the case under appeal, precedent cases and different Queensland legislation. They prepared arguments on several grounds of appeal, which they then had to argue in front of a judge in the USQ moot court. During the presentation of their case, the judge questioned them extensively on their legal knowledge and knowledge of the case.
Facing a range of challenges throughout the mooting experience, teamwork, determination and a professional approached ensured they performed well. Unfortunately, the students did not win this extremely close round; however; they received positive and constructive feedback from the judge.
All students should be commended on their hard work throughout this challenging experience. They look forward to attending the grand finals of the competition August.
