CRAZY SOCK DAY IN SUPPORT OF CATHOLIC MISSION

On Thursday 23 October, our school will celebrate Socktober – Crazy Sock Day. Socktober is an exciting way to bring communities together and make a real impact on global issues. By participating, we not only help those in need but also foster a sense of empathy and social responsibility. It's a chance to engage in meaningful activities, learn about important causes, and see the difference your efforts can make. This year we were raising awareness and funds for communities in Zambia, to help ensure children have access to food and education, giving them the chance to build a brighter future.

To build excitement around the event, students are invited to wear their craziest socks in support of Catholic Mission. Alongside this fun activity, students are encouraged to bring a gold coin donation to help support the ongoing and vital work of Catholic Mission. We especially encourage students to get creative and make their own unique socks using recycled or craft materials, rather than buying new ones, it's a great way to show spirit and support in a meaningful, hands-on way!

We are excited to welcome a special guest, Deacon Martin Lewis, Director of Catholic Mission, who will speak to students about the impact their generosity has on communities in need.

Primary students will have the chance to win prizes for the craziest socks, judged by our special guest.

The iconic symbol of Socktober is a tattered, recycled soccer ball made from socks, t-shirts, and plastic bags tied with string. This ball represents the heart of the event. Decades ago, a young boy named Jorge Mario Bergoglio played with a similar ball on the streets of Buenos Aires. He later became Pope Francis, and always cherished sport and its power to connect with children from disadvantaged communities.

Secondary students are asked to bring scrap materials to school throughout this week and next. Each mentor class will create their own recycled soccer ball, and the class with the best ball will win a pizza party – judged by Deacon Lewis.

On Socktober Day, there will be a soccer shootout between Davadi and McAuley. The team with the most goals scored in 30 minutes wins! During the soccer shootout, both primary and secondary students will be using the recycled balls made by the secondary mentor classes.

We look forward to seeing the creative sock and sockerballs. Thank you in advance for your support of this special day.
